Can you let go of your desires?

Buddha's teachings were that if you let go of all your desires, you will find pure peace and contentent in life. Is this true to you?

List up to ten of your desires, then explain which ones you can let go of, if not all of them. Explain why or why not they are important, and why you are able to let go of them.

7 comments:

  1. 1.Food
    2.Clothes
    3.Money
    4.My house
    5.My computer
    6.My television
    7.My phone
    8.School
    9.Happiness
    10. Myself

By the way I dont really think I'd find pure bliss if I let go of myself, no offense to Buddha.

  3. Ten of my desires? Well, I kind of find it hard to find true desires, let alone ten of them. Well, here goes.

    1.Peace
    2.Family
    3.True friends
    4.Happiness
    5.Education
    6.Expanding my lifestyle
    7.Surviving
    8.Succeeding in any obstacle
    9.Being healthy
    10.Living (if possible) for eternity

If I were to choose which desires to let go of, I would have to choose #6 and #8 and #10. #6 because if I had to live in a constant life, (meaning if I had to live a repetitive life), I would be fine with it. Most would go restless, having nothing else to do but the same old routine, but I feel if you practice the same thing over and over again, it could help you in life. #8 because it is expected that you learn from your mistakes. I feel that if you wouldn't make any mistakes at all, oir someone just tells you all the time what and how to do something, it just wouldn't be natural. #10 because if you live for eternity and no one else does, you would be quite the lonely person. It is vital that you have company on your way through life, or else grow stubborn, impatient and cranky.

  4. These are really great, but to tell you the truth, I think it is important to have all ten of them Connyr. What I was talking about is things. Peace, happiness, and stuff like that are more of lifestyles rether than actual things which are going to be easier for you to know which ones to let go and to keep! however, Overall, these are all great because you explained every part of the question great, and that especially goes to you Connyr!
    My desires are:
    1. Wii
    2. Laptop
    3. Books
    4. Food
    5. Money
    6. School
    7. Piano
    8. Violin

To tell you the truth, I cannot think of anymore! I don't think I need a wii because of two reasons. A Wii is just somthing that I can live without and living without it is going to be better for be that way I won't be wasting time on it. I also don't want a Wii because it looks better in big screen t.v's, and as Raisa knows, my family is very simple and has a small screen t.v, and I don't want to buy a tv just for that. I don't need a lptop, because we already have one, and a computer, but it would be good if we had one, so that there wouldn't be fighting over the computers! I don't need it, but it would be good if we had one.
The rest I don''t think I can let go of that easily because they are things that would better my lifestyles. I need books and school for my education so I don't wander jobless. I need food to survive. In this harshness of the 21st century, I need money to survive too. I need a better piano and violin so that I could enhance my playing if the violin itself is of better quality, so that I can perform better.

  7. My desires are:
    1. Books
    2. Education
    3. Food
    4. Money
    5. True Friends
    6. Peace
    7. Happiness
    8. Becoming Healthy
    9. Wii
    10. Clothes

I know all of these are part of you people's desires, but they are mines too. I could let go of Wii, because I won't have any time for playing it. I can't really let go of anything else, I mean I need books to survive boredom. I need food and money to live. Like Shruti said, now-a-days, you need money to survive. I need to be healthy, because I am very skinny. I need education and true friends to live a good life. I need everything else too, I think you guys can figure them out by yourself!
